- ProfileThe Spruce Grove and District Agricultural Heritage Society provides facilities, programs and events that bring people together to celebrate agriculture’s influence on our past, present, and future.The Spruce Grove & District Agricultural Society is a non-profit organization which was formed in 1972. Their goal is to promote agriculture and preserve local agricultural history. They provide facilities, programs and events that bring people together to celebrate agriculture’s influence on our past, present, and future.When the Grain Elevator, built in 1958, was scheduled for demolition in 1995, the Ag. Society stepped up to preserve it as a working elevator. The elevator and property was designated as a Provincial Historic Site by the Province of Alberta in October of 2020. Also on site is the Spruce Grove Archives, the Spruce Grove Museum, a workshop, the historic Miller barn, the restored Old Town Water Tower, and a machinery display shed.Annual summer fund-raising events such as Flap Jacks at the Tracks, the Farm & Heritage Carnival, Alberta Open Farm Days, and the Harvest Fair, are hosted by the Ag.Society. Curriculum based school tours are available from May to September. Elevator tours are available by donation during the summer months.Landscaping of the site will be completed in 2021.An active Community Garden is located on King Street in Spruce Grove.Funds raised by the Ag. Society are used to maintain the Elevator and property, and to provide educational programming to the community.The Spruce Grove & District Agricultural Heritage Society’s long-term goal is build a tourist and heritage facility for the City of Spruce Grove. A new building will house the Spruce Grove Archives, and the Museum collection.
