Fort Assiniboine & District Ag Society
Ag Society Category: Region 5
- Profile
The Fort Assiniboine Ag Society is nestled in Woodlands County as a hidden gem. We are near the Sandhills Provincial Park and Central Staging area on the Klondike Trail. Nestled along the Athabasca River, we are surrounded by farmers fields and vast trees. We have a strong sense of community spirit with neighbors knowing your name, and welcoming all those that come into our little hamlet and our facilities.
Our mission and vision are to promote and enrich quality of life in our community, to provide educational opportunities related to agriculture and rural life. We also support our growing community in programs for children and adults.
Winter months our hockey rink is busy with two local Fun Hockey teams ~ the Pistols and Rangers. Barrhead Minor Hockey rents our rink for practices and looking at future ice time for games. Memorial Hockey tournament in March draws people from all parts of the province for a fun weekend of Men’s Hockey. In the summer our rink transforms into a beautiful space for weddings, family fun nights, and annual events.
Our community hall is the home of our Fort Assiniboine Moms and Tots preschool that invites children aged 3-5 from surrounding communities to learn fun skills before going to Kindergarten.
Walsh Park, provides an outdoor setting that adds ambiance that engages the experience of participants and spectators to come out and watch ball games on the diamonds, our outdoor rodeo arena for the North Country Junior Rodeo Association (NCJRA) rodeos with children aged 5-14 showcasing their skills in timed events. It also provides lots of room for parking, camping, use of the playground, concession buildings and ball diamonds. Along the Athabasca River there is a walking trail that encompasses our Walsh Park enjoying nature and a picturesque view point of the river.
With future growth in the community, we look forward to offer new programs and services for everyone. Come and check us out if you are driving on HWY 33, we will be excited to meet you at our Hamlet Hoedown & Rodeo every third weekend in August.
