- Profile
The Pibroch District and Agricultural Society (PAS) is a non-profit organization that exists to promote community and agriculture in our area. We are located 11 km north of Westlock in the county of Westlock.
Its roots stretch back 100 years to August 9, 1913 where the first meeting of the Pibroch Farmers Association was held. Membership was 25 cents and meetings were held in Alex Irvine’s “shack” a place that was large enough to squeeze in a number of people. The following year a log hall was built by the Farmers association. The hall met the immediate purposes of the community but as the membership grew it became too small. The solution was to build a new hall and the old hall was sold. In 1921 the new hall was built. But this building soon became too small and an addition was added to the hall in 1930.
By the end of the Second World War a number of committees were operating in the hamlet. In 1947 the Hall Committee; Board of Trade Committee; Athletic Association, Skating Rink Committee; and the Picnic Committee joined together under the title of Pibroch Community League. The new League applied for and was granted a new Charter under the Societies Act. Also that year land was purchased south of Pibroch for use as sports ground.
In 1976 the Provincial Government was offering grants to communities for recreation. The Pibroch Community League applied and received a grant which was used to enlarge the hall, improve the kitchen, and dig a well to provide indoor facilities.
